Received January 22, 8.45 a.m. LONDON, January 21. General Biiller has cabled that General Clery, with part of Sir Charles Warren's force, had thirteen hours' haid fighting yesterday. By the judicious use of artillery they fought their way up, capturing ridge after ridgo for three miles, bivouacking on the* captured ground. The main Boer position, however, is still in front of tho British vanguard. The British casualties were not heavy, but 100 wounded were brought in by ar. early hour in the evening. The number of killed has not been ascertained. The Boer trenches are being shelled continuously. General Lyttelton has occupied a kopje within 2000 yards of tho Boers' position af> Brakfontein. Laoysmith is jubilant at hearing the guns of the relieving columns.
