PROBABLE RAILWAY CONTINGENT.

WELLINGTON, January 19. A few days ago the railway men at Ashburton suggested a contingent of skilled railway employees should be sent to South Africa. Tho Hon. J. G. Ward communicated with tho Cape authoritieb respecting tho proposal, and a reply was received that it v\as probable the men would bo required. The New Zealand Railway Department then issued a circular asking for names of those willinp to go.
