All steamers arriving are crowded with excursionists to witness the contingent's "seiid-ofi." The accommodation of tho city is severely taxed. Further crowds are expected to arrive tomorrow. The Canterbury war fund contributions, exceed ,£4BOO, in addition to the hqrses given to the {Government and .£2OOO received from tho patriotic fund. Over 100 applications ha\o been received for enrolment in the Canterbury, contingent, and the determination to gelid a Canterbury contingent is being takan up with enthusiasm. RELIGIOUS PATRIOTIC SERVICE. Preparations aro being mad& for the seating of a big crowd at the patriotic lehgious service on Sunday in the Drill Hall, commencing at 3 o'clock. The Volunteers will have returned from Wei- j lirgton in time to paiticipate in it, and in addition to members of local bodies, the Garrison Band and. Firo Brigade will also take part. The addresses will be short and to tho point, and the hymns will bo appropriate to tho occasion. Hymn sheets will bo distributed to all present. It is hoped there will be a hearty response to the appeal for further funds for the contingent.

WANGANUI'S SPECIAL CONTINGENT. The Mayor thi.« morning received the following splendid patriotic offer from Robert Kilpatrick Simpson, jiui., Huntomlle. — "I offer myself, my own lioise, and £20 in cash to equip myself." The Mayor this morning waited upon Mr Buxton, of the Railway Department, and also on Mr J. F. M'Beth, chief postmaster, and urged that the railway employees subscriptions to ihe Patriotic Fiynd, and those of the Post and Telegraph Department should go to the local Patriotic Special Contingent Fund. The Mayor explained that when the above funds were inaugurated it was prior to tho Premier's suggestion that Wanganui should equip its own Contingent, and it was but reasonable that the employees of the above departments should now ask that their subscriptions should join with the subscriptions of their fellow citizens in. the grand local patriotic effort.
