SWIMMING.
ST GEORGE'S SWIMMING AND WATER POLO CLUB.
The above club held their handicap races in the Coiporotion Baths last (Thursday) evening, when a fair number of swimming enthusiasts werp present. Ono or two of the races wore pvenly contorted, and resulted in close finisliei. Mr H. Novernian acted a^ starter, Me&srs W. J. Mahoney and H. J. Bailoy as judges for tho junior events ard Mr P. Beauchamp for the senior events, while Mr Thompson had charge of tho clock, following are the results- — 50 Yards Junior Handicap— A. Wild, 8 sees, 1; F. Western, 2 sees, 2; L. Ward, 4 sees, 3. Also started — C. Campbell sell, W. Cummins and C. Ellison 8 spm, and G. Greener 10 sfi"s. Ward swam veiy pluckily, but could not get quite up. Time, 43 2-ssec. 50 Yards Senior Handicap — H. Taylor, 9 eocß, 1; W. J. Mahoney, 5 sors, 2; D. May, 4 sees, 3. Also started — 11. J. Bailey sch, A. H. Baywood 2 sees. Taylor maintained his lead throughout, a splendid fmi'sli for other places. Time, 38 2-ssec. 75 Yards Junior Handicap — F. Western, 4 sees, 1, L. Ward, 7 sees, 2; C. Campbell, sch, 3. Also started— C. Ellison 14 sees, and G. Greener 16 sees. Ward pressed tho winner right to the finish, but Westcia was not to bo denied. Time, lnuii 20secs. 100 Yards Senior Handicap — W. J. Mahoney, 7 sees, 1; H. J. Bailey, sch, 2, D. May, 6 sco, 3. Also started— A. H. Haywood 4 sees, and H. Taylor 16 sees. This race resulted 111 a close finish. Taylor led for 7j yards, at which distance all the competitors were bunched, but Mahoney, who was swimming- with a powerful stroke, gradually wore the others down and led to tho finish, closely followed by Bailey, who swam a very plucky race. Time, lmin 19secs.
