FINANCIAL PANIC IN NEW YORK AVERTED.
(Per Mail Steamer at Auckland.) (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 18. New York barely escaped a severe financial panic owing to the drain of specie for England, and the failuic of (he Produce Exchange Tiust Company for twelve and a half million doliais. To stay tho panic, the Clanng house lent ten millions to the Stock Exchange. Tho Government loaned seven millions, in cash and individual banks bent a laige sum.
