FIGHTING NEAR RENSBURG.

21 BOERS KILLED AND 50 WOUNDED. I IEUT.-GENERAL FRENCH COMPLIMENTS NEW ZEALANDERS. Received January 18, at 9.10 a.m. LONDON, January 17. A Renter's message sayß that the Boers on Monday tried to storm a hill held by a company of the Yorkshiro regiment and a fow Now ZeaUnders, commanding their position nrar Rensburg. The Boers, under tho protection of a heavy fire, crept towards a low wall covering the Yorkshires. When the enemy's final rush was iniminont the Yorkshires leapt over tho wall and charged them with the bayonota. Captain Madocks and ten of the New Zealanders gallantly co-oper-ating-, tho Boerg fled, tumbling over one another in their efforts to escape the bayonets. Twenty-one Boors were killed and fifty wounded.

LATER. Lord Roberts reports that the New Zealand Rules held tho hill at Renaburg. A detachment of the Yorkshire Regiment supporting them. Six'of the latter wero killed and five wounded. Lieutenant-Genoral French complimtntcd the New Zealanders, telling them that on all occasions their conduct Enorited the highest praise. CAPETOWN, January 17. Martial law haa been proclaimed in the Hqpetoun and Phillipstown districts. Many Boera at Stormbcrg have gone to Colesberg.
