WANGANUI REGATTA ASSOCIATION

The special general meeting called for laßt night was held in the Union Shed, about forty-five persons being present. After the object of the meeting had been explained by the chairman and a little disoussion had taken place, Mr Bates movpd: — "That, owing to tho strain on the Wanganui public for subscriptions to the Transvaal War Fund, it would be a graceful action of the Association to decide not to canvass for subscriptions for a regatta this year." On being put, the motion wa& declared carried, there bfiing only one dissentient. Another motion to the effect that .£ls be taken from the Home Fund for the purposes of a local regatta provoked a long discussion, but on being put was lost by seven votes. In all probability the local clubs will subscribe sufficient money fo purchase a ' few trophies, which will be rowed for amongst themselves, and thus give the crews which have been in training for some time an opportunity of an airing. A question arose as to whether a. winner of these races would lose his status as a maiden or junior, and this will be subnutted to the Rowing Association for its decision. Although the Association has decided not to canvass for subscriptions, it will havo no objection to accepting money from anyone who feels inclined to supplement the club's contributions.
