WATER CARNIVAL.

St. George's Swimming and Water Polo Club. There was a very fair attendance at the Corporation Baths last (Thursday) evening on the occasion of the water oarnival in connection with the St. George's Swimming and Water Polo Club. The evening was fine, but cold, and the water was evidently not well relished by the competitors, some of whom cried " enough " after the preliminary dip. A well diversified programme had been arranged by the energetic committee of the Club, and the ' spectators were kept amused and interested throughout the evening. The 'old ladies' high dive was a most amusing event, and the prize was awarded to the ugliest diver. This was secured by Mrs Lee (P. W. Jones), the other competitors -. being Mrs Grundy (C. Halligan) and Mrs * Brown (Blythe); The boating sketch also ■ caused a good deal of fnn the characters being well taken by Messrs Mowtell and , - Jones and Master Neverman. Several tableaux were sliown daring the evening and Mr P. Hooper enlivened the proceedings by playing a number of pianoforte "selection. The sports were brought to a conclusion by a capital representation of ■.' tlKi Cospatrick at sea, a small boat full rigged, being utilised for the purpose. McGregor gave an oxhibstion of fanoy diving ana with Jones performed some olever feats off the high spring board. The " secretary (Mr Neverman) was kept very busy, and the other officials^-Mr' H. Gibbons timekeeper, Mr Mowtell starter, and Messrs J. W. Day, Jones and C. Halligan —assisted materially to the success of the evening's sports. Following are the results : — ' 100 Yards Maiden (senior) : F. Ansley ' 1, H. A. Thompson (Hnnterville) 2, O. Halligan 3. Only starters. Ansley got the advantage of the start and maintained it to the finish, winning by a yard after a well contested race. Thomson could fiave got second had he chose. Kurth won with his handioap to spare. Polo Match (seniors) : The match ended in a draw, both sides scoring a goal. Tho ." teams were — Halligan, Brennan,, and .
