They captured the stockade after severe fighting. The British lost ten and tho Soudanese sixty. Cairo, March 30. The Bcitish gunboats have captured Shendy, a Dervish stronghold on the Nile opposite Metemmeh. Seven hundred Dervishes assembled in front of Shendy. Three British gunboats shelled them, while the Egyptian forces out-flanked the enemy, who fled. They were pursued for twenty miles, 100 were killed, the forts destroyed, and a large quantity of grain, stores, and ammunition was captured. Six hundred slaves were also captured.
