Collegiate School Sports.

The annual sports meeting of the Collegiate School was held on Saturday. The weather was very cloar, but a stiff wind blowing rather hindered the long distance runners, although it ran directly down the 100 yds strings. The mile was run on Monday, 21st, and resulted in an easy victory for J. F. D. Hewitt in smin 10 l-sth sec. The new ground, which is 504 yards round, looked very well, and the spectators could easily see all the races wftliout oucroaching on the tra.c,L, The hurdle events van now bo run on the running 1 ground. At the end of the ground there was erected a large tent, in^ which were piovided tea and refr63.rn.ents for the visi. tors by M.esdame.s Empson and Shields. Notwithstanding tho wind, two records wore broken, J. C. Palmar running the 440 yds (open) in 57 l-sth sec, and E. B. Williams the 440 yds (under 14) in 64 2-sth seo. The jumping, both long and high, was very good this year. C. 6. Saxby jumped to within ljm of the record. J. Holden's long jump was a very good distance, also Palmer's, wl^o yune'seoond. There were about 13 entries for the Old Boys' raeo, which D. Hewitt won by 2yds. After the sports the Old Boys had a tug-of-war with 15 of the school, tb,e latter wiiining easily Thore «>fl,a v fair- o,tsendauoq m-esaul, and these after the aporta adjourned to. the sohoQUoom, whore they witnessed the distribution of the prizes.
