THE CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA.
(Per United Press Associaiion-]! Dukedin, March 2^. Owing to the strong southerly wind JL blowing and heavy sea it was 3 o'clock " , before a start was made with the regatta, and even then the water was lumpy. There was a large attendance, including. Lord and Lady Ranfurly. Twice during the day a postponement had to be made owing to the sea. At thp conolnsiQn,ft successful explosion of a small boat rigged up to represent a brig was carried out By Captain Falconer. Tho following are th'a results :— Maiden Focns (clinkers) : Port Chalmers 1, Lyttelton 2, North End (Dunedin) 3. A splendid race. Won by a couple of feet. Maiden Doodle Sculls (clinker)— North End (Dunedin) 1, Railway Club (Invercaigill) 2. Otago gave up. North End led all the way, and won by, a dozen lengths. Otago Plvte Clinker Focus : Dunedin Amateur 1, Awarua 2, Port Chalmers 8. Queon's Drive No. 2 and North End Dunedin also started, but the latter gave ' up. The Amateurs won by a length after a good race. Junior Double Sculls (olinkers),i-mile: Wairewa R.C. 1, Port Chalmers B.C. 2. North End B.C. 3. Won by two feet after a fine race. This was the last race of the day, the light failing. The Championships will ba got o£f at 0.30 a.m. on Saturday and the chnker events in the afternoon.
