HAIMONA HOROTI.
The Old Chief Still Alive.
It appears 'that the announcement of the death of the chief Haimona was a little premature. The old fellow collapsed last Wednesday, and was thought to be dead. .The suppoped corpse, according io Maori custom, was removed to a tent, and a messenger was despatched to bring word to town by the steamer (which had passed by the settlement a short time previously) and make arrangements for the burial of Haimona. After half-an-hour's riding the steamer was overtaken and the messenger taken on board. It afterwards transpired that Haimona had fallen into a trance, from which he did not recover until it was too late to countermand the order for the preparations for burial. The old chief is suffering from internal cance^, and his death is hourly expected.
