Mangamhu Hack Racing Club.

President: Mr A. Higgio. Judge: Mr N. Hearn. Starter : Mr D. Grant. Clerk of Course; Mr J. Kennedy, junior. Clerk of Scales : Mr W. Brown. Handicapper: Mr Morse. Secretary and Treasurer : Allan Robinson. (By Our Special.) The weather unfortunately was anything but propitious for Saturday's gathering (looked forward to with so much interest), lor rain in the early morning stopped numbers from a distance in attening. The downpour ceased about 9 o'clock, thus enabling those on sport intent to put in an appearance, but rain again fell about 12.30 and also during the deciding heat for the Mangamahu Cup. The meeting was mainly noticeable for tho treble win of Star King (Gipsy King— Starwater), who appropriated the Maiden Hurdles, Members' Race and District Handicap, and the dual win of Cairo (presumably sired by Gipsy King) in the Cup and Handicap Hurdles, the former after an interesting set to with Marina. The fields throughout were good, the racing (with several surprises) interesting, and the management all right. There being no totalisator, betting was carried on by the "books," some of whom did well and others indifferently, owing to the aforesaid surprises. The results were : — Maiden Hurdles, 1J miles : Star King 1, Castella 2, Sunlight 3. Five others started. Won easily. The winner started at 2 to 1. Half-mhe Handicap : Auroa 1, Marina 2, Foxglove 3. Ten others Btarted. Won easily all the way. Marina was favorite at evens, Auroa 4 to 1. M-Ngahabu Cup, one mile: Cairo 1, Marina 2. Won by a length after a dead heat. Eight others started in the first race, Marina being favorite at evens, -'Cairo 2 to*l. -' ~" Hurdles, If miles: Cairo 1, Zaida 2. 'The' only other starter was Bloomsvale, who fell at the last jump. Won by a< couple of lengths. Cairo was favorite. Meuberb 1 Race, 1 mile: Star King 1, Mayo 2, Tikitere 3. Five others started. The two first-named were equal favorites at 2 to 1. Flttno Handicap, J mile: Marina 1, Reselda 2, Auroa 3. Seven others started. The winner was favorite at 2 to 1. The Maori Race (| mile) was won by Rapia, and the District Handicap by Star King, defeating nine others.

The owner of Cairo, the dual winner at the Manganiahu races on Saturday, called on us to-day, stating that he saw the stewards of the Mangamahn H.R.C. as soon as he arrived, requesting them to ■ take particular notice of the Hurdle Race so that they 'should.be satisfied that the public had a good run for their money. Failing thiß request being carried out, Mr ' Chamberlain stated that he would scratch the horse, as he could not understand the animal starting at such long odds, in view of the estimation in which he was generally held by backers.' As it turned out Cairo won easily. In the Cup the owner considers that the race itself was thrown away through the jockey on Cairo attempting to ride a olose finish. This was demonstrated later on when Cairo easily won the run off in the dead heat against Marina.
