Sergeant Sommerville Top Score in the Marlborough Match. (Per United Press Association.) Oavaito, March 15. The weather for the shooting to-day opened very cold and dump, and the fog delayed the shooting for some time. The Victorian ammunition was used, and there are oven complaints against this, some of the competitors declaring they would prefer to fire with that which the Council had withdrawn. Both wind and light were very tricky all day, consequently at the longer ranges shooting was very poor, some of the men almost failing to hit tho target. The wind changed during the night, and the weather broko fine and clear this morning, with a light southerly wind, which blows down tho range. There aro 122 volunteers shooting and 65 members of rifle clubs. The council met this morning, and decide.l to allow competitors to use either colonial or Victorian-manufactured ammunition. Major Sommerville informed competitors that it had been reported that some of them were using Kynock ammunition, and warned them that a strict inspection would be made, and that any offender would bo dealt with severely. Shooting began with the first stage of the Oamaru Match, 300, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots. The wind was steady and the light good. Several of the competitor:) using Colonial ammunition and at this range aro holding their own with those fitiug with Victorian. An examination of ammuniton was made this morning, but no Kynock discovered. The leading scores at 300 yards were— Lyders (Dunedin), McGregor (Oamaru), Dickson (Dunedin), Harding (Blenheim), 32 each. Eleven have made 31 and there are numerous 30's, and the match will not be finished before 3 o'clock.
