BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tho usual fortnightly meeting of the Wanganui Borough Council was hold last (Taesday) evening, when there were present— Crs G. Carson (in the chair), A. J. Parsons, P. Bell, E. Perrett, G. W. Collins, E. N. Liffiton.aud R. H. Gateuby. Apologies were received from Hi 3 Worship the Mayor and Crß Cummins and Spurdle, Bank Balance.— A debit of £1528 12s Id was recorded in the Borough fund account, a credit of £573 12s on special account, and a credit of £810 18s lid to interest account. Inspector of Abattoiiib and Dairies. — The Clerk reported that Mr H. L. Marsack had been appointed by the Council in committee inspector of abattoirs and dairies at a salary of £250 per year. The action of the committee was confirmed. Wanoanot Bridge. — Letter from the Wanganui County Council suggesting tho 18th of April as a suitable date for conference with the Borough Council on the bridge question. Date agreed to. Pakk Place. — A petition was read from residents in Park Place drawing attention to the unsatisfactory state of the footpaths in that locality, and asking that they bo put in proper repair before the bad weather sots in. Referred to the Foreman of Works. Invitation. — Tho Council decided to accept with thanks an invitation from the Fire Brigade to attend a smoke concert on Friday evening tendered to the team which represented the Brigade at Auckland. Mn Mitchell's License. — A letter was road from Mr Jame3 Watt, acting on behalf of Mr Mitchell, stating that a statement of claim was being prepared in connection with the application for a mundinniiK from the Supreme Court to compel the Borough Council to issue a meat purveyor's license to his client. Stout, Finlay and Co., the letter stated, had the matter in hand. Gas.- -Several Councillors complained that the gas-lamps in the Borough we c not attended to as they should be, and the Clerk was instructed to write the Gas Company re the matter. Owing to the absence of the Mayor, several matters were held over. Accounts wore passed for payment, and the Council adjourned at 8 o'clock.
