A PECULIAR CASE.
(By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) (Per United Press Association.) (Received March 10, at 9.15 a.m.) London, March 15. Application has been made in the Ecclesiastical Court to Thomas 11. Tristan, Q.C., Judge of the Bishop of London's Consistory Court, for the exhumation of the body of Thomas Charles Bruce, upholsterer, who died in 1864, whose remains are supposed to be interred in Highgate cemetery. It is alleged in support of the application that the burial was a sham one, and that the coffin, instead of containing the body of Bruce, was filled with lead. The widow of the late Walter Bruce, son of Thomas Charles Bruce, declares the latter was really the Marquis of Tich. field, who afterwards became the fifth Duke of Portland. The judge granted the necessary facilities for the exhumation of tho body. A caveat against the order for exhumation was entered by Sidney George Bruce, grandson of the decoased, who resides in Australia.
