Maori Canoe Races.

A largo and representative meeting of natives was held on the Market Squaro on Saturday afternoon, when Messrs Bates and Goffe reported that between £50 and £70 bad been collected for the canoe races. In all, there will be nine Maori events, including the Consolation, and these embrace the Aotearoa Championship, for orews of not less than 20 men each j the Wainuiarua Championship, for crews of not less than 15 women each ; two water hurdle races and a race each for boys and girls, for crews of ten. An entry was received from a crew from the Sash and Door Factory, but the natives objected to meet a fresh European crew after paddling in ono of the championship races. Entries do not close till ,the day of the regatta (Thursday), but the following crews have already guaranteed to start for the respective races, and mutually agreed that any crew failing to compete will be fined 10s : — AoirAßOi CnAMnoNsmp (not less than 20 men) — Waikahua, Mangatiti, Teremoe, Mangaone, Te Wehi, Pou-a-rikiriki, and Rere-manua. Wainuiarua Chajipionship (not less than 15 women)— Waiknhua, Mangatiti, Rere-a-manua, Kauaeroa, and Teremoe. Moutoa Handicap (10 men) — Rere-a-manua, Pipinki, Kauaeroa, Taumaranui, Mangatiti, and Waipuna. Tupiri Handicap (10 women) — Rere-a-manua, Pipiriki, Kauaeroa, Taumaranui, Mangatiti, and Waipuna. Hurdle Raon (for two men) — Putiki, Waipuke, Rangiawhio, Pourewa, Tui, Ruapehu, and Tawhaki. Boys' Race (10 boys) — Rere-a-manua, Whakoihuwaka, Kauaeroa, and Pipiriki. Girls' Race (10 girls)— Rere-a-manua, Whakaihuwaka, Kauaeroa, and Pipiriki. Hurdle Race (for more than two persons) — Pipiriki, Taumaranui, Rere-a-manua, Tawhitinni, Waipuna, Whakaihuwaka, and Iwikohia.
