Notei by "Yiotor."

Entries for the Cook's Gardens Board of Control sports meeting to held on Easter Monday close with Mr George Tuffio. on Monday, 28th March.

The Auckland A.A. and C. Club's carnival, at which Stanley Rowley, the Australasian champion npnnter is to compete, takes plaesou the 26th inst. Rowley is expected to leave Sydney next Wednesday, and will thus have a clear week in Auckland before the gathering.

Billy Murphy was beaten in 12 rnunds by W. Curley, of Newcastle (England); in a match for nß<da, which was decided in London on February 26th. A cable to the Australian papers states that although Murphy was game, Curley was the rlfvererl

A. R. Duwner and E. C. Bredin were to have met in a match race over 500 yds at Eochdale on March s'h.

Downer is very anxious to draw B. Wefers, the American crack amateur sprinter, into a match, and with this end in view has issued a challenge to run Weferß or any other American from Isotosooyds. The Wnverley Athletic Club's annual spurts take place on Thursday next, the 17th instant. The nominations , for botb cycling and running events are very good, and some most interesting and enjoyable sport should be witnessed by those who attend. The committee have the arrangements well in band, and there is every promise of the gathering being a most successful one. At the time of writing the handicaps have not come to hand, so I shall have to leave ray anticipations until next Wednesday's Herald.

At the Inglawood sports last Thursday week, the Maiden vvaa won by A. Morqp. Riohardsow came in first, but was disqualified, aa be refused to sign n declaration. T. Taylor won tbe 220 yds and the Mirsh Memorial Handicap, H. Homera tbe 100 yds, D. Callngban the 440 yd*, with J. Biker second. Row* secured tbe 220 yds Hurdle-", A. WbitiDg the Mile, and J Mila the Half. April 2 ad is probably the date selected for the Oxford and Cambridge race. Cambridge made a start with its crew during the second week in January, and the eight which has started work does not include any 'blues ' — that is, oarsmen who have previously rowed in tbe great inter 'varsity race. Oxford probably began work towards the end of January, and is always later getting together than Cambridge. The ' dark blues ' will only have the eoreicoß of about three of last year's men.
