MEETING OF CREDITORS.

A meeting of oreditors in the estate of William Hogg was called by Mr John Notman, D.O.A, for this (Friday) afternoon. There were present — The D.O.A. (in the chair), Messrs F. M. Spurdle (Sash and Door Company!, G. D. Jones, Mailman (Chronicle), G. Spriggens, O'Hara, W. Hogg, Clayton (Hannah and Co ), Kennedy and Drummond.

The Assignee stated that the debtor had filed his itatement in 1892, his debU then amounting to. £47 6s 6d, and was at present an undischarged bankrupt. He had when filing »tatod that his furniture was i worth under £25, and aocording to the newspaper reports the furmturo at the recent fire was worth over £ICO. He had written to his solicitor on tho question, and on his advice had made a demand on the Insurance Company, as according to the Act Ms creditors had power to claim any money coming to Hogg. Examined on oath, tho debtor accounted for the increase in value as due to his baying had a constant billet, and making up some for himself. He had purchased some. At present be was in debt over £50, incurred eince 1892. He had not made out a list of them. About £2 of his present liabilities were incurred in the purchase of furniture, the other portions of the debts being various storekeeper*' accounts. Of these W. Bruce was £20, Hodson Bros. £6, Mitchell £6 10j, Caddy and Co. 25i; Drummond M 18i, Dr Earle £5, G. Spriggena £5 10s. This made a round total of £100— £50 old debts and £50 new. The debtor said he was prepared to make an offer to his old creditors of 10a ia the pound. Tho DO A. pointed out that the Act provided for the debtor receiving £25 out of the insurance money, so that there would remain the sum of £75 for division.

In making his offer tbe debtor said he considered it a fair and reasonable one. He had his new creditors to pay, and had a home to get together, which he certainly could not do with £25.

Mr O'Hara proposed that this offer be accepted He said that there was no doubt that they did not expect to get anything at all, and in order to give the debtor a chance of making a freeh start, he thought they could not reasonably take more than was offered.

The motion was seconded by Mr Mailman (Chronicle), and carried unanimously.

A voto of thanks was accorded the D.O.A. for his action in the matter, on the motion of Mr F. M. Spurdlo. A special meeting of the Wanganui County Council was held this (Friday) morning at the Council Chambers, to consider and settle the balnnoe-Bhoet. There wore present — Crs. Sommerville (in the chair), Patterson, Cowan, Morgan, and Howie.

On the motion of the chairman, it was deaidod that the balance-sheet, as audited, be settled at once.
