A brutal aHsmpt at murdor was made at Hukatere, by a half-ca^te o£ Waitotara, named Wiri te Knhu, who attacked his wife and inflicted horrible wounds on her Load end threat, threw her on the fire, and oleared out. The woman was found injensible and removed to the hospital, where she now lies in a critical state.
