At a meeting of the City Council s deputation waited on the members stating that owiriaj to the number of unfimployed they had canrasjod the town for subscriptions and collected over .£SOO from some 50 subscribers. The deputation, in urging tlie Council to assist, pointed out that there was a considerable number more unemployed in town than was dr«»Hjfc of. The Council unanimously agreed to vote £SOd towards the object. Ifc is understood that the promoters of the fund intend, if possible, to arrange that the money ba expended in preparing a recreation ground on the hills which overlook the city and harbour.
