A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

The Mang&toki correspondent of the Hawera Star writes:— A serious accident befell Mrs Preeoe on Saturday afternoon, a>nd it is miraouloQß that she has recovered. Mrs Preeoe had been to Eltham during the afternoon, and was returning home. When opposite Mr IC. Macrae's residence, a fourwheeled bullook waggon, heavily loaded with furniture, met her. The horse she was riding passed the bullocks quietly, but when it caught sight of the furniture it took fright, and swerved round suddenly, and got in amongst the bullocks, two of whioh were young ones in the pole. The bullocks took fright, and dragged Mrs Praeoe and her' horse for two chains before both got free of the chains, and the waggon passed over both rider and horse. It is astonish, ing that the wheels did not pass over one of the two. Mrs Preeoe received a soalp wound on the baok of the head caused by a bullook stepping on her, and is also out and bruised in in a frightful manner from head to feet, half a dozen stitches having to be put iv some wounds. The hone was also greatly out about, the saddle being torn tolpisoes. Mrs Preece was plaosd undei chloroform on Monday and examined, but no bones were found broken. We all sincerely hopa the unfortunate sufferer will soon be about amongst us again. Mr Preece has also our heartfelt sympathies.
