Another sewer accident has happened at the Port Melbourne section of the drainage works, where the shaft is down 50 feet. s. Three men named ■ William Tocng, James Phillips and Jamas Conroy were driving a shaft in the sand when the gronnd collapsed. Young just barely escaped, but Phillips was crashed to death. Uo&roy was entombed, and only rescued after three hoars' work. He was badly injured. SroNKT, Mar 8. The Full Court has reversed the verdict in the case in connection with the Alathea-Sol collision. When the case was previously before the Court the owners of the Alathea sued the President of the Marine Board, as the owner of tha Sol, for damages, and obtained judgment for .£6OO. The Board appealed against the decision, on the ground that at the time of the colliaon the Sol was not in the employ of the Board, as she was conveying a number of gentlemen down the harbour who were not on business of the Board. The appeal was upheld. Mblbofbnb, May 9. Charles Fisher, of St. Kilo's, grarier, kas filsd a petition in bankruptcy. His liabilities amount to £1,477,000, and assets estimated to produce £786,000. He attributes his failure to the depreciation in property values. The firm of Abraham Bros, is applying for a new trial in the case in whioh Greener, gun manufacturer, was awarded heavy damages. The ground of application is that the damages are excessive and vindictive. Mr Harper, chairman of the Australian Deposit and Mortgage Bank, is leaving for : England to try and induce the depositon to re-open the reoonstruotion soheme, and grant the bank easier terms.
