PIPIRIKI-KERIQI MAIL ROUTE.
On Wedneoday Mr S. Peters, the wellknown moil contractor, arrived at Pipiriki with the fir3t mail coach, which on this occasion took the shape of a buggy. Mr Peters has the contract for the carriage of Her Majesty's mails between Tokaanu and Pipirikij and has been waiting for some months for the completion of the road between Kerioi to Pipiriki in order to make a start. The road, with the exception of one place, is in good condition, and great enthusiasm was displayed by the settlers along the route on the occasion of Mr Peters' first trip. The bridge across a deep watercourse nine miles from Pipiriki is still unfinished, and the buggy and horees had to be taken across on planks. W hen this bridge is finished there will be a first-class road right through to Tokaanu, and many tourists will come down from the hotlakesto Wanganui by that route, as the Bcenery is superb, the road from Waioura to Pipiriki pacing through some of the finest natural ecenery in New Zealand, passing over spurs of Ruapehu, Ngaruhoe, and Tongariro at an altitude of 3,800 feet above sea level. Passengers can do the whole journey without having to walk any portion of the road. The members of the Poßtal Conference are to be taken up the Wanganui Kiver, and thenco through the Hot Lakes' Country early next month. The trip will be a most enjoyable one if tho weather is propitious, and will impress our Australian visitors most favourably with the back conntry, which has hitherto been a terra incognita, but will ceease to be so now that the Wairera and " King Cobb " have joined forces to open it up We congratulate Mr Peters on the success attending his initiatory trip, and trust that his enterprise and pluck will meet with the success they deserve.
