In connection with the import and export trade returns, it may be stated that owing to the crisis of last year being distinguished by largr e movements of aold the returns convey a less perfect idea of the real trade of tbe colony than usual. Pastoraliats in the districts around the Gulf of Carpentaria, are taking concerted action to induce a company to commence operations on the Gulf for the export of frozen meat. They have given a pledge to take up a certain number oE shares in the company, paying for them in either cash or cattle, and guarantee to supply at leaßt five per cent, of their stock.
