A Petition.
TO THH EDITOE.
Sib, — Enolosed you will find a copy of a petition whioh is being largely signed b^y the village settlers, and which we intend to forward on Monday's post. Imaysaythatindigi nation is being largely expressed by a number of settlers at the way the present Ministry is trying to mutikto the Village Homestead System, and it is to be hoped that you will take steps to assist us in trying to prevent the breaking-up of this system of tenure, which is a boon to the working classes. Tho prosperity of the system is becoming more evident every day j oven those who tooi up soetions when they were in a state of destitution have now comfortable homes, and have obtained cattle, pigs, poultry, and other things they would never have possessed if the advantages of the system had not been offered to them. But I must conclude in haste. — I am, &c. A Pbtimonbb.
