October 6. The Eev. C. E. Barley, Weßloyan minister of this circuit, died last night. At tho inquest held at Manaia on the fire by which Hayes' house, near Kaponga, was burned down, a man named ißriggs stated that ho was offered £6 by Murdo McLean, ■who was ono of the witnesses in the BryccHutohison case, to give evidence as to the building and furniture destroyed similar to the evidence given by the Hayes family, the offer having been made to him on Thursday. Later in the day he understood that he was offered by Hayes £10 or a section in Manaia if he and his brother would give evidence in support of that given by Hayes and hia family. Threo of Briggs' family gave evidence to the effect that the house was not lined or finished by tho Hayes' family, and that the furniture a few weeks ago was much less than had been represented. Tho enquiry is not yet concluded.
