GREYMOUTH.
January 5 In the Hack Race at Ahaura to-day ten started. Fairy, with R, Barton riding, fell when five or six ohaina from the atartiag post. Barton was in the aot of rising, having a hold of the bridle, when another horso came up knooking or kioking him over.' He was seen to roll over, but never rose afterwards. He was carried to the booth, aud remained nnconscioua for some time, but after a while ho spoke. Death ensued four hours {afterwards, apparently without pain. He was unoonsoious at the last. Deceased, who was a resident of Hokitika, leaves a wife and family.
