WELLINGTON.
January 5. No members of the Government will attend the Australian centenary, but it is probablo that Sir John Hsll will be asked to represent New Zealand. Tho Order in Council raising the school age of ohildren and declining to retain children at school after passing the sixth standard has been revoked. Government have not yat decided whether the colony should be represented at the Postal Conference in Sydney.
. January 6. At the Supreme Court, in the oase of Silveater Dannis Fagan for breaking and entering, the jury were locked up all night without agreeing, and were discharged this morning. The prisoner will be arraigned for a new trial to-morrow. Clement G. Harding, for false pretences, got three years, having just come out of gaol after serving sentence on five aimilar charges, John Johnetone, alias Ticklepenny, and Charles James Sharp, for larceny, eaoh received one year's hard labour, Tho case of Uriah James Williams, for indecent assault, ia now proceeding.
