May 28. Mr J. Marshall has scratched King for the Great Northern Steeplechase.
Boulton, the prisoner who recently attempted suicide at Mount Eden Gaol by opening an artery, has made another attempt by strangling, and has been committed to the Lunatic Asylum.

As yet no clue has been found to the perpetrators of the jewellery robbery. The value of the goods is now estimated at £800.
The Government were in Cabinet the whole of the afternoon. Most of the principal measures to be presented t3 Parliament by Ministers are now coirplete. The following gentlemen are gazetted superintendents of quarantine stations : — Mr U. S. McKellar, vv ellington ; Mr Thos, Hill, Auckland ; Mr Alexander Rose, Lytteltou; and Mr James Hackworth, Dunedin.
