Mr Ollivier, Resident Magistrate, gave judgment to-day against Daniel Falvery for having failed to qualify himself as an efficient volunteer — 50s capitation, and 20s for neglect of parade*, and co-ts.

At the Magistrate's Court this morning Mrs Royal was formally charged with the murder of her two children by drowning in the river Heathcote. At the request of Insppctor Pender the ease was adjourned. The accused is under medical supervision at the Hospital. She passed a quiet night, and appears quite calm, but has made no reference to the death of the child reu. An inquest will be held to-morrow. The eldest boy was rescued in an exhausted state, and h now out of danger.

Yesterday evening two separate fires at at short intervals were discovered at Klungenstein's Hotel. They were evidently the work of an incendiary. The proprietor extinguished them just in time to prevent a serious conflagration.

This morning the Lyttelton Times was published for the first tim» from tbe new building, just erected at a co^fc of £8000. To commemorate the evont ( ayac simile of the first copy of the Lyttelton Times, published on January 11th, 1851, and an illustration of the new building, was published with this morning's issue.
