In a short visit here, 1 the Rev Father Le Menant des Chesnais has collected over £300 for St Patrick's College, Wellington.
March 11.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following telegram", dated London, 9th March : — The wool market is unchanged except for faulty short staple scoured merino, which has declined from Jd to Id per lb. Fine greasy crossbred : Market is firmer, but seedy, and burry wools are neglected. Up to date 170,000 bales have beea sold. The wheat market is quiet. Adelaide is worth 45s 6d, and New Zealand 41s per 4961b5. The tallow market is firmer. Mutton is worth 42s 6d, and beef 39s per cwt. The leather market remains unchanged. The New Zealand hemp market is quiet. Finer qualities are in good demand. JBineis worth £2$ per ton.
March 12.
Five more informations have been issued against E. K. Watty for forgery, amounting to about £100 in the aggregate. At the Education Beard today the polling for the election of three members resulted as follows:— Henry Bunny 33, W.C. Buchanan, M.H.R., 29, W. Hutchison, M.11.R , 23, Archdeacon Stock 17, and Ilev.
