INVERCARGILL.
March 12.
A fire broke out at 11.30 last night in the railway workshops, which are very old buildings in course of demolition, but still contained valuable machinery. Fortunately the men at the station extinguished the fire before much damage was done, the frame of the building being only considerably charred. The causs of the fire is unknown.
The Bluff Harbor Board are considering the advisability of ordering a submarine plough to deepen the berths at the wharf, where Priestman's dredge failed to act. The Rev Mr Stobo's wife is dead.
