(Before W. F. Russell and Gilbert King, Eaqrs., J.P.'s.) DOG REGISTR vTION.

T. Coakley, as dog registrar for the town, charged S. Neary with failing to register two dogs. — No appearance of defendant. — Fined 5s for each dog, and costs of c urt.

Same v Mrs S. Cann. — Plaintiff had visited the premises and found one dog, which had not been registered. — Defendant stated that the dog belonged to her son, in Palmerston, who was willing to register it. — Case dismissed, the Bench holding that the wrong party had been charged. Same v S. Wright. — Defendant admitted the claim, and was ordered to register and pay costs of court. Same v G, Hope — Defendant had given the dog away four weeks ago. — The Bench held him responsible, as he had the animal whtn the collector called. Fined 5s and costs.

Same v. Matilda Stretch. — Two dogs unregistered. — Defendant stated that she had interviewed the Mayor respecting these dogs, stating that she was not in a position to pay the tax ; had since sold one, and had no means at present to register the other. — Fined 5s and costs.

Same v. J. J. Crawford. — One dog. — Defendant stated that he had not had the dog for 18 months, the animal having left him of his own acoord. — The Bench considered him liable for the ownership, and fined him 5s and costs

Same v. S. Ryan. — Had offered to pay 2s 6d a week to Coakley. — Ordered to pay coats of Court and registration fee.

The Mayor of Hawera ( Mr Bate) has been successful in floating the £5000 loan for gas, for which purpose he went to Wellington last) week.
