SCHOOL PRIZE FUND CONCERT.
i There was a very large attendance at the concert given yesterday afternoon in aid of the prize fund of the Boys' High School, the theatre being crowded, and a most enjoyable time was spent. A capital programme had been arranged, and the boys practised assiduoualy beforehand in preparation for the event. The following was the programme :—: — Selections, Drum and Fife Band ; recitation, " How the celebrated Miltiadea Peterkin Paul got the better of Santa Claus H. Scrivener ; song," Aldiborontiphoscophornio," (Dr Callcott) ; recitation, "The quack doctor," R. Rankin ; duet, violin and piano (variations upon "Home, sweet home"), E. King and F. King ; song, " The laughing chorus ;" song, "Farewell, my country;" dialogue, "The mimic school," schoolmasters, E. Guthrie, R. Rankin, and W. Rose ; due*, and two violins. W. Staffan and F. King ; recitation, " The philosopher's scales," J. McFarlane; selections, Drum aiad Fife Band ; recitation, "Boys' rights," J. Leys ; piano solo, " William Tell," E. King; recitation, " The owl critic," A. Aiken : song, "Mr Nobody ;" recitation, " When I'm a man :" Teacher J. Williams ; carpenter, H.Dunbar ; printer, A. Murray ; minister, H. Williams ; farmer, William Lind ; doctor, J. Watson ; school committee, Frederick Carson ; bricklayer, Albert Barns ; blacksmith, N. Anderson ; shoemaker, William Blake. The items were fairly given, the recitations being very good, aud band played capitally together, though the singing was not everything to be desired. The, Mimic School, in which several of the boys took part, was capitally given. At the|j| conclusion of the programme, Mr Watt came forward and 1 made a few remarks. He stated that he was , very pleased to be present at the entertain- , ment, which tended to do good in educating the boys, and he begged parents to send their children regularly to school, as not only they but the funds of the school committee would be benefited thereby. He complimented Mr Fenn for the manner in which he had brought ion the boys for the entertainment, which showed that they were well drilled and looked after in other ways. This was the first entertainment of the kind, and had proved highly successful. Mr Fenn, in reply, ' thanked the boys and their parents, in a few appropriate remarks, and the band having played the National Anthem, the proceedings terminated.
