GOVERNMENT LIFE INSURANCE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — The means taken by our present Government in puffing their system of Life Insurance, through circulars sent with the daily papers and distributed by boys in the street, are surely derogatory to the prestige of a state auW outside the legitimate functions of the Government. More especially so when it has been shown that the Industrial branch was such as not to warrant it in holding out any special inducements, the co3t of manage - ment being altogether out of proportion to the premiums. Further, it is an abuse of state authority ; using it as improper interference with trade, for the purpose of creating a monopoly, and competing against similar institutions controlled by men whose commercial training and experience have specially fitted them for the work,— - I am, fee, Insurer.
