CHRISTCHURCH.
Nov 2. The .tfaibour Board to-day accepted a tender for the ocean steamers wharf at Lyttelton for £5444, and for the shed on the wharf £4501. The Under-Secretary for the Colony has telegraphed to the Chamber of Commerce that the total number of sheep and lambs in the colony on May -31at was 13,280,000, subject to a few slight additions. This shows a satisoactory addition to the figures of last year— l2,4SO,ooo. Oct3. Early thi3 morning a six-roomed cottage at North Opawa was destroyed by fire. The buiWing and furniture are insured for £350 in a New Zealand offce. Origin of fire unknown.
