Racing RULES. Nominations to be made to the Secretary, at Turakina, for the handicaps on Friday, 2nd of February, 1883 ; weights to be declnred on Friday, 9th February. Acceptances and general entries will close on Tuesday, 20th February, at the Ben Nevis Hotel, Turakina, at 9 p.m. No other nominations will be receivedunder any pretence whatever after the time specified for closing. Letters bearing the postmarkjof the day of entry,and telegrams of the same date will be received. No entry will be received for any race except upon this condition — that all disputes, claims, and objections arising out of the racing, shall be decided by a majority of the Stewards present, or those whom they may appoint. Their decision on all points connected with the carrying out of this programme shall be final. All entries to be sealed and addressed to the Hon Secretary, Turakina, entrance money enclosed, with the name, age at time of entry, pedigree, and, in cases of handicaps, performances of the horse, name of the owner, and colors of the rider. Any jockey riding except in colors entered will be fined 3 soys. When two or more horses start, the property of the same owner, a distinguishing colour must be worn. All persons intending to withdraw horses are required to give notice to that effect to the Secretary or Clerk of the Scales one halfhour, before starting. Any person neglecting or refusing to comply with this rule, shall pay a fine of 5 soys to the race Fund. All races to' be run under the W.J.C. rules. Horses walking over will only receive half the stakes. Qualification fee, £1 Is, for owners of horses unless a member of the club. Second horse to save its stakes only where specified to do so. T. R. Egmont Handicap, of 120 soys ; second horse to receive 20 boys from the stakes; nomination, 2 boys ; acceptance, 4 soys; distance, 2 miles ; winner of any handicap of the value of 100 soys or more after declaration of weights to. carry 51b extra. To start at 2 o'clock. 6: Maiden Plate, of 40 soys ; for three-year-olds and upwards ; weight for age; distance, \\ miles; entrance, 2 soys; open to all horses that have never won any race prior to entry ; winners of any race after entry to oarry a penalty of " 51b. To start at 3 o'clock. 7. Maori Race of 12 soys j second horse to receive 3 soys from the stakes ; entrance 1 boy ; distance, 1J .miles. For bona fide Maori horses and Maori riders.
