MARTON.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of householders was held at the school-house, Marton. thia Saturday evening at 6 o'clock, for the purpose of electing a School Committee uuder the new Education Act.

On the motion of tho Rev. W. Stewart, seconded by Mr R. J. Harris, Mr R. E, Beckett was voted to the Chair.

The Chairman having briefly explained the object for which the meeting had been called, viz. — for the purpose of electing 7 householders to act as a Committee, in accordance with the provisions laid down in the new Educntion Act, and to define the school boundaries, was about to proceed with the nomination when Mr Lyon objected, on account of their being bo few in attendance, and suggested that the boundary question should be discussed first.

The Chairman, however, read that part of the Act relating to the election of committees, and ruled that it was quite in accordance with the wording of the Act, and at once proceeded to the nomination of the following gentlemen : — Rev. A. Towgood, Rev. W. Stewart, P. M. Deighton, J. Harris, S. H. Russell, 3£. E. Beckett, J. Johnston, W. H. Witohell, H. Humphrey, and F. Beaven. Mr Lyon objected to the Rev. A. Towgood aa not being qualified as a householder.

The Chairman read the Act referring to this point ; the objection was over* ruled, and the ballot was proceeded with, the following gentlemen being elected to act as members of the Marton School Committee. 27 householders voted, including one ta hose vote was deemed informal : — H. Humphrey 44:, Rev. A. Towgood 33, Rev. W. Stewart 24, J. Harris 18, R. E. Beckett 16, Jas. Johnston 14, W. H. Witchell 13.

Mr J. McKae and Mr IT. Lyon acted as scrutineers.

On the motion of Mr Lyon, it was resolved that the ballot papers be sealed and kept.

The question of school boundaries was then discussed and defined, and a resolution passed that same be submitted to the School Bonrd.

A vote of thanka to the Chairman concluded the meeting.
