SAILING RACE HOME FROM NEW ZEALAND.
The long distance match by sea has just been decided. On the tenth of March, two iron clipper ships left Lyttelton harbour, Canterbury, bound for London, viz., the Crusader, Captain Davies, and the Rangitikei, Captain Scotland. Both vessels beiuer about the same tonnage, and both having the reputation of fast sailiupr, heavy bets were laid on their respective performances on the passage homo. The two ships' progress as far as they were sighted on tbo 12th March, off Bank's Peninsula, they were well together. Betting was about even on them, each ship having its own enthusiastic parties. The race terminated in one of the most remarkalbe runs ever made by a sailing vessel from the Antipodes, the Crusnder having reached the English Channel witliiu 65 days of leaving Lyttelton harbour, the passage being unprecedented. The Rangitikei has not put in an appearance yet, though the Crusader has been in London over a fortnight.
