NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that application is intended; to be made at the next session of the General Assembly of New Zealand for. leave to bring in ! a Bill to authoriso the Wanganui _£aas Company, Limited, incorporated under the provisions of " The Joint Stock Companies Act, 1860," to break up Streets and Bridges to lay down and place Pipes, Conduits, and \ Service Pipes, and to make and construct other works for supplying the Borough of Wanganui and suburbs with Gas, an,d for otlier purposes relating 'thereto/and to the objects for which the said Company has been established. It is r intended to" apply for the following' powers oh behalf of the Company, that is to say : " 1. The Company may, under the {superintendence of the persons having the control or management thereof, open and break up tne so^ an( * pavements of the several streets, bridges, and wharves within the limits of the Act, and open and break Tip any sewer", drains, or tunnels within or under such ptreets, bridges, or wharves, and lay down and place within the same limits pipes, conduits, service pipes, and 'other works, and from time to time repair, alter, or remove the same, and also make any sewers that may be necessary for carrying off the washings and waste liquids which may arise in the making of the gap, and for the purposes aforesaid may remove and use all earth and materials in and under such streets and bridges, and may in such streets and upon such bridges an d i wharves erect any pillars, ♦lamps, and other works, and do all other acts. which the Company shall from time to time deem necessary for supplying gas within the said limits, doing as little damage las may be in the execution of the poweis to be granted by the said Act and making- compensation for any damage which may be done in the execution of the said powers. 2. That the Company may from time to time outer into any contract with any person jib i-. lighting or supplying veitli Gas' any public or private building, or providing any person with pipes, burners, meters, and lamps, and for the repair thereof, and also from time to time enter into any contract with the Wanganui Borough Council or Road Board or other persons having the control or management of any streets or roads within the limits of the Act for lighting the same with gas, and for providing such Council, Road Board, or persons with lamps, lamp posts, burners, and pipes for that purpose, and for the repair thereof in such manner and upon such twins as shall be agreed upon between the Company and the said Council, Road Board, or other persons. 3. That the Company may let for hire any meter for asceitaining the quantity of gas consumed or supplied, and any fittings for the gas for such remuneration as shall be agreed upon between the Company and any person to whom the same may be so let, and such remuneration shall be recoverable in the .same manner as the rents or sums due to the Company for gas, and such meters and fittings shall not be subject, to distress for rent of the premises where the same n?ay be used, nor be taken in execution under any process or proxjeding of a Court of law or equity, or in Bankruptcy against the person in whose possession the same, may be. 4. That the Clerk, Engineer, or other officer duly appointed for the pnrposc by the Company, may at all reasonable times enter any building or place lighted .vith gas supplied by the Company, in order to inspect the meters, fittings, and works tor regulating the supply of gas. and' for the purpose of ascertaining the,' quantity ,of gas consumed oi supplied, and if any person hinders such officer as aforesaid from enteringand making such inspection as aforesaid at any reasonable time, he shall for every such offence forfeit to the Company a sum not exceeding five pounds. 5. That if any person supplied with gas neglect to pay the rent due for the same to the .Company, the Company may stop the gas from entering the premises of such person by cuttiug- off the service pipe, or. by such means a3 the Company shall think fit, sud recover the rent clue from such person, together with the expense of cutting 1 off the gas and the cost of recovering the rent by action in any Court of law of competent jurisdiction. 6. That in. ail cases in which the Company are authorised to cut off and take away the supply of .gas from any house, building-, or premises under thd ptovisions of this Act, the Company their; agents, or workmen, after giving forty-eight hours' previous notice in writing, to the occupier, or if no occupier, then after leaving such notice on any portW- of • the 1 ' premises, may erter unto' such house, building, or premises between the hours qf, nine in the, for"enbon and four in the afternoon^ ancl icmoVe and carry away any pipe^ meter, fitting, or other works, the property 1 of the Company. 1 ); ' • 7.
