The report expressed a hope that new life will be infused, and influence augmented by the late increase of members. The report expresses satisfaction at the Pacific mail arrangements, and thanks the Wellington Chamber for their prompt cooperation. The balance sheet shows a credit balance of £109. Dr Campbell, the retiring chairman, delivered an able address. He considered fourteen members of the Harbor Board too many ; it was unworkable, the talking power being too excessive. He also condemned the dock site. SCHOONER CANTERBURY. The schooner Canterbury arrived at Samoa on April 12th in a sinking condition. At the shop of Hislop to-day, smoke was observed issuing from between the lining boards. The boards were pushed away, and flames rushed out. When the fire was extinguished, pieces of paper, bones, pieces of raw meat, candles, and several wax vestas were found. It is supposed that the fire was caused by a rat eating matches. The lowest tender for the Kaipara railway is Larkinson and O'Brien's, the amount being £16,800 ; Goodall is the next lowest with £23,000. The highest was nearly £50,000.
