CANTERBURY GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORT.

Canterbury Times, May 12,

Grain deliveries begin to show a marked decrease with the approach of winter, and the railways find little difficulty in keeping the sheds at the out stations clear.

Transactions in wheat have npt been of a very extensive nature during the week, business being principally confined to millers, who have been giving higher rates for sound quality than merchants' limits. Sales at os to 5s 3d are reported, and 2s 6d and upwards for sprouted parcels. The excitement that prevailed a few days ago with regard to this cereal has all but died out. The latest advices from England show that, after reaching 65s to 68s per quarter, the rise in wheat was arrested. Tho quotation given is equal to 8s l^d to 8s 7-gd per bushel. Barley continues depressed. Malsters and brewers having laid in their supplies, sales are difficult to effect in this market at anything over 2s 6d to 3s.

Oats. — The outside demand has not improved. We quote 2s to 2s 3d as current values in Christchurch. Business in this cereal has been principally of a second-hand nature during the week.

Potatoes are offering freely at last quotations, but do not meet with ready buyers, except at reduced rates.

Dairy Produce. — Cheese is in large supply, and rates are somewhat easier. We quote 5d to s^d as current values. Butter is held for for ll|d to Is, without much outside enquiry. Millers'quotations for flour, guaranteed quality, range from £16 in sacks ; bran, £4i; sharps, £5.
