PATEA EDUCATION BOARD.

A meeting of the above body was held on Monday, February 7th, 1876. Present — Mr Middleman, (Chairman,) Messrs. Mcßae, Christie, Coutts, Dale, and Milroy. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. An application was made by Mr Honeyfield to lease section 67 at 10a per acre, if the Board fenced the same, or 6s per acre unfenced. Proposed by Mr Coutts seconded by Mr Milroy that this matter stand over for the present. Carried. An application was made by Mr John Collins to lease two town lots. Proposed by Mr Dale seconded by Mr Coutts — That Mr Collins's application be accepted. • Carried. • Proposed by Mr Coutts seconded by Mr, Dale — That the Secretary cause spouting to be placed around the buildings at Kakaremea and Keteinarae. Carried, i Proposed by Mr Dale seconded by Mr Mcßae— That Mr Evans and Mr Smith be exempt from paying the Education Rate for 1875-6. Carried. Proposed by Mr Milhoy seconded by Mr Coutts — That the Secretary write to Mr Dyer asking him when he will be prepared to undergo an examination and in the event of his deciding before the next meeting the Secretary to obtain the necessary papers and supervise the examination. Carried. Proposed, as an amendment, by Mr Mußae, seconded by Mr Dale— That ih be added in the letter that in the event of Mr Dyer passing a second class examination his salary be raised to £180. Carried. Proposed by Mr Miliioy seconded by Mr Christie — That the Secretary offer MiHarris the appointment of teacher to the Keteinarae school at £150 per .annum and free house, and if he declines, to advertise for a teacher. Carried. Proposed by Mr Mcllab, seconded by Mr Christie — That tenders be called for erecting two schools ; oneatXakaramea, and on,e at Manutahi, on the same plan as the Patea school, 18 x 28, and to be built the same in every particular. Carried. ACCOUNTS.

Proposed by Mr Dale, seconded by Mr Coutts — That the Treasurer pay the accounts. The meeting then adjourned until the first Monday in March',
