Resolved — That tenders be called for the leasing of 10 acres of the Agricultural Reserve for either 2 or 5 years. Resolved — That tenders be advertised for. The meeting adjourned until further notice. A match was played on Saturday afternoon between the Patea Cricket Club, and the Siar Club, the former substituting the pickhandle. for the bat in order to equalise the match, the Star Club being composed of youths under sixteen. The " Pick Handles " played under considerable disadvantage, owing to the narrowness of the handle. It required great quickness and accuracy of eye to strike the ball at all. " Swiping " was dangerous, and blocking was equally unsafe, the handle not being sufficiently broad to cover the wicket. Iv several cases their wickets were struck while the handle was at the full block. The bowliuf of the youths was excellent, and being " underhand," was the more discomfiting to the "picks," who were all ''round-hand" bowlers. In the first innings the " picks " went out with a little more rapidity than seemed to please them, but this was fully made up for in the second, whon a more satisfactory score was made, owing probably to their getting better used to the underhand bowling. > The wickets were struck about 5.30 p.m. ending in a victory to the " pickhandles of 33 runs." A match bettveen the Wanganui and Patea clubs will be played kcre. on Wednesday next, aud another on Saturday between the Hawera and Patea.
