TO THE EDITOR OF THR EVENING HERALD.

Wanganui, Sept. 17, 1869,

Sir, —As I have heard many statements concerning a road to Taupo, I venture to suggest a method whereby a track might be made at little cost. Supposing Mr Gotty, or a Maori guide, were to point out a track from Kennedy's to Taupo, and a party of, say, eight men, were organised by public subscription, dp you not think that such a party could clear a foot track as they went, which would facilitate to foot passengers a track to the supposed gold fields ? This would not only be beneficial to travellers, but would also incite the Government to a future road. I think subscriptions for such a cause would be readily obtained, as it would not require a large sum, and then any person desirous of travelling from one place to the other could do so easily. By inserting the above you will oblige, Yours, &c,

Townsman,
