LATEST FROM THE FRONT.

(From our Special Correspondent. Camp, Nukumaru, 11.30 a.m. Feb. 9, 1869. Colonel Whitmore Has taken up his bead-quarters at Nukumaru. He has not, at present, ascertained the enemy's position, and thinkingf it probable that Titokowaru mi^ht retire in the direction of Wanganui, he has judiciously sent a small portion of his force in this direction. < Lt.-Colonel Lyon has re-occupied the redoubt on Moore's ground, and Captain Foster has taken up a position on the Nukumaru side of the Okehu, at the mouth. This movement will not interfere with his present movements. Colonel Whitmore has got parties scattered over the whole district, but is unable to find any traces of the rebels. Nos. 2 and i Divisions are out to-day under McDonnell and Roberts. The men are much harassed by constant marching- in trying- to find out the enemy's position. It is known that a portion of the rebel force has crossed the Patea, fires having" been seen in several places. Captain Hawes, at Wairoa, is keeping- a sharp look-out, and has ambuscades constantly laid on the inland tracks, in hopes of being 1 fortunate enough to catch' the natives in their retreat. It is not probable that head-quarters will be moved at present, but Colonel Whitmore is ready to move at any moment that he can hear of the enemy's position.
