Wednesday, Nov. 2G. Present: Mayor, and Crs Simon, Lock, Roche, Lloyd, Coit, Rithbun, and Suisted. Letter from J. Gilmer and others, asking the Council to make a foot track in Russell street, from Wakefield street to Brougham street. Referred to the Public Works Committee for report as to the probable cost. Letter from T. Sheahan and A. Stitt. calling attention to Had state of the pump at the intersection of Palmerston and Bright streets, also directing attention to the unfinished state of the footpath between Cobden and Kennedy-streets.— Referred to the P.W.C. with power to act. Letter from E. O'Conor. M.H.R., suggesting that the Borough and County should combine in an application to Government for leave to form a roadway bv the railway line from Queen-street along Roebuck-street. This would render available a frontage of 20 chains of Municipal Reserve, which could then be let.— Referred to P.W.C. for report, and estimated cost to be obtained from the Boro' Engineers. Letter from R. Smith, Queenstown, offering his services in the e'-ent of gas works being established.—Referred "to the Public Works Committee. From E. 0"Conor, M.H.R., suggesting : that certain sections adjoining MrPunt's

holding, facing the river, should, if possible, bo reserved to the town as a garden or pleasure ground.—Resolved—That Mr O'Oouor be requested to interview the Government for the purpose of obtaining, if possible, the reserves mentioned in his letter ; and also that he be requested to interview the Government for the purpose of obtaining Britannia Square as a recreation ground and public garden. Letter from A. D. G. Cumming, re increase of salary.—The Mayor ruled that the matter of the letter required notice of motion. Resolved—That the use of the Town Hall ba granted the Brass Band on condition that the Hall custodian is paid by them for attendance. Resolved—That tenders be called for the valuation of rateable property in the Borough ; to close at next meeting. The District Railway Manager having re-erected the gate at Lyndhurst-street removed by the Council, it was resolved to communicate with the proper authorithorities, and to ask the co-operation of the Member for the District. Accounts were passed. Letter from E. O'Conor, asking permission to make a stone crossing at his store, Upper Palmerston-street. Granted. The Public Works Committee recommended that the drain and footpath referred to by Messrs Dobson and others, be cleared and gravelled.—The gas question, referred to the Committee, was held over for 4 weeks.—The Committee had accepted D. Emanuel's tender, £2O, for forming and metalling Queen-street, from Bright-street to Cobden-street.—Report adopted.
