GIRLS’ LIFE BRIGADE

ENJOYAELE GATHERING. IN METHODIST HALL. A most enjoyable time was spent in' the Methodist Sunday School Hall last evening, when the Methodist Girls’ Life Brigade gave an excellent entertainment, there being a large attendance. Before and after the concert good busines was done at the various stalls, at which the mothers and sisters of the members of the Brigade assisted. The Rev. G. P. Stockwell presided, and expressed his pleasure at the large audience present, and spoke in the warmest terms of appreciation of the work of the leaders of the company, Captain Phyllis Jansen and Lieutenant Betty Mannell. He also announced that in the near future a visit to the Dominion was expected from Major Blenkinsopp, of London, who was hoping to spend some weeks in New Zealand and visit every company.

After the opening hymn and prayer, the Girls’ Life Brigade Law and Promise were recited by the members. This was followed by a pianoforte solo by the company pianist, Miss Gillespie. Recitations were given by Rona Killington, Eunice Brader and Yvonne Poster, who recited Ist Corinthians, chapter 13. Three items that were greatly enjoyed were physical, squad and wand drill.

A solo -was also given by Irene Fub ton, and a chorus by the company. The awards won during the year for attendance, drill and. life-saving were presented by the chaplain. A bountiful offering on behalf of the work was received, and an exceptionally find playette entitled * ‘ G.L.B. Calling ” was presented. Votes of thanks to all who had assisted, and the National Anthem, brought a happy gathering to a close. During the evening Father Christmas paid an unexpected visit, and presented balloons to the children, young and old, to their great delight.
