CRICKET
THE M.C.C. TEAM DEPARTURE FOR AUSTRALIA. Press Association Electric Tele^ranh—Copyright LONDON, Saturday. . An enthusiastic crowd wished the M.C.C. cricketers God-speed when they departed from Waterloo station for Australia.
Summing up the English cricket Test team’s prospects, Mr A. P. E. Chapman, the former Test captain, says that the team has not less than an even chance of regaining the ashes. The team has solid batting and variety in the bowling, and should be exceptionally good in the field. England, in bowling, appears to be much superior to Australia, but in batting Australia will be tremendously powerful. The captain of the team, G. O. Allen, speaking at a farewell dinner at Lord’s, said: ‘ ‘ Some say the team has a difficult job. I don’t believe it will be. I have full faith in the players. Honestly, I would not change one of them.” Gover has taken 200 wickets during the season, being the first fast bowler to accomplish this feat since the Australian McDonald in 1925.
